Tonya Jansen, LMHC
Tonya is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a graduate of Walden University with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Trauma and Crisis. Tonya has a background working with domestic abuse survivors, sexual abuse survivors, and victims of crime. Tonya strongly asserts that adverse experiences can result in complex and co-morbid mental health issues. In order to best help her clients, Tonya has sought training on interventions to address concurrent issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and personality disorders.
Tonya is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a best practice in working with past negative experiences and trauma. Tonya is also certified in Trauma Model Therapy by Dr. Colin A. Ross, a therapy model which blends cognitive-behavioral, systems, psychodynamic, and experiential principles. Tonya leverages her knowledge of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the emotional intensity issues that often accompanies childhood trauma.
Tonya works with children, adolescents, adults, groups and couples. Tonya welcomes the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-binary, questioning, or queer populations by offering a safe and affirming environment to all.
In her spare time, Tonya enjoys reading young adult novels, watching musicals, listening to music, and spending time with family. Tonya considers herself a nerd and takes pride in her uniqueness. She looks forward to helping you love your uniqueness too!
